Reporting to the Deputy Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for assisting with the planning and implementation of the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s sustaining donor program (annual gifts of $1,500 or more). The Development Department of the Los Angeles LGBT Center has a goal to raise $13 million for FY’14 and will work to increase funds raised by 10% in FY’15. The department has a comprehensive sustaining donor program with approximately 470 Sustaining Donors. The program includes researching, prospecting, keeping detailed donor records and managing a well-developed program of donor cultivation, recognition and renewal. Challenges include the opportunity to significantly expand membership and revenue, especially at higher-level gifts of $6,000 and up.

Major Gifts Officer Los Angeles LGBT CenterESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1) Work with the Deputy Director of Development and other Major Gifts Officer to plan, implement and manage a comprehensive program to identify, cultivate, solicit, recognize and renew/upgrade sustaining donors.

2) Participate in all aspects of the sustaining donor program including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and renewal.

3) Implement Moves Management system for an assigned portfolio of sustaining donors.

4) Personally develop close working relationships with high net-worth individuals, to engage them in the process of donor cultivation and stewardship.

5) Become a member of professional, social and networking groups and attend weekly events to expand donor prospect base.

6) Entertain donor prospects at lunches, dinners and other appropriate social settings.

7) In addition to tours for the general public, organize tours of Center facilities for high net-worth donors.

8) Review monthly results and revise year-end projections to achieve annual budgeted goals.

9) Work closely with development, administration, communications and program staff to advance program goals.

10) Attend various events throughout Los Angeles to meet new donor prospects and to expand relationships with current donors.

11) In close cooperation with the Deputy Director of Development, develop revenue and expense budget for the next fiscal year.

12) Responsible for creating 1 affinity group house party per year. (legal, financial, healthcare, entertainment)

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

1) 2-4 years of development, with special emphasis placed on donor relations, prospecting, membership management and annual funds. Capital Campaign experience a plus. College degree or equivalent educational attainment preferred.

2) Working knowledge of the Los Angeles LGBT philanthropic communities a plus.

3) Flexibility to work during the evening and on weekends.

4) Proven concern for detail, organization, and timely follow-through.

5) Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

6) Superior management and leadership capacity.

7) Knowledge of Moves Management and The Raiser’s Edge a plus.

8) Ability to work as part of a team.

9) Commitment to meeting membership and financial targets.

10) Dedication to the mission and service goals of the Los Angeles LGBT Center and ability to communicate that dedication.

11) Standard office computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets; familiarity with structure and uses of sophisticated donor records software.

12) Demonstrated ability to work effectively with men and women of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations in a multicultural environment.
