The National Center for Lesbian Rights seeks a go-getter to fill the part-time temporary communications associate role. We are looking for someone with the drive and dedication to help our communications department further the organization’s litigation, legislation, public policy, and projects.

The temporary communications associate will be a three-month stint—with the possibility of extension—that reports to the Director of Communications.

PERSONAL QUALITIES

  • We’re look for a rock star who can help us elevate the organization and has the initiative to develop and implement communications campaigns that will attract attention.
  • Social networks are so second nature to you that you think hashtags should be their own language.
  • You don’t like to waste time and are always coming up with new ideas.
  • You have a sense of humor.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the Director of Communications, Assistant Director of Communications, and program staff on implementing public relations and social networking campaigns for assigned project areas, including our Asylum & Immigration Project, Sports Project, Family Law Project, Youth Project, Healthcare, and Transgender Law.
  • Implement communications, marketing, and social networking strategies that effectively communicate NCLR’s mission, work, and message.
  • Assure consistent delivery of NCLR’s message, including “look and feel” in internal and external communications.
  • Plan, write, and edit materials including press releases, social networking content, action alerts, letters to media professionals, ghost written blogs and op-eds and any other materials as needed.
  • Maintain website, including updating content and implementing strategy for making it as user-friendly, relevant, and effective for public education as possible.
  • Monitor media coverage of NCLR activities and compile lists on a monthly basis for distribution to key stakeholders.
  • Assist in the production and distribution of NCLR’s legal publications.
  • Develop strategic social networking campaigns, and work to implement them.
  • Other communication duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION

This is a part-time, three-month temporary position that begins in mid-April, with the possibility of extension.
