Over 4,500 free tickets have been distributed for the first pride in Portsmouth for 13 years, organisers are considering a move to cope with the mass crowds.
David Lee-Bastable, chair of Portsmouth Pride’s organising committee said:
“We’ve been extremely pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming levels of support shown to Portsmouth Pride,
“With over 4,500 free tickets distributed in just a month, and a huge demand for stalls, we’re now planning to move from Victoria Park to Southsea Common on Saturday 20 June, subject to the relevant approvals and arrangements being made.”
“Our parade will still take place in the City Centre, leaving the Guidlhall Square at noon heading up to Commercial Road and then back again. We are currently looking into options of helping ticket holders get to the common for our “Variety Show” afternoon of entertainment and community activities.
“It has been thirteen years since the last LGBT event took place at Castle Field, and a lot has changed since then,” said David. “This time we are getting support from all kinds of community organisations, not just those involved with lesbian and gay issues, but any group that recognises the need to end discrimination and prejudice, whether it be dissability, religious, racial, gender or other forms of inequality.”
Portsmouth Pride will take place on Saturday 20th June.
