Southern California’s LGBT publication of record, Frontiers magazine, has partnered with the city of West Hollywood, the Tom of Finland Foundation, Visit West Hollywood, MOCA at the Pacific Design Center and the bars and clubs of Boystown for the third annual Go-Go Dancer Appreciation Day Festival & Competition, to be held Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Larrabee Street and Santa Monica Boulevard.
Frontiers has launched a competition at FrontiersLA.com/gogo2013 for readers to vote for their favorite L.A. area go-go dancer. The seven dancers who receive the most votes out of this year’s 16 semi-finalists will move on to perform live at the festival, where judges and the live audience will determine a grand prize winner. Two other titles will also be awarded—’West Hollywood Boystown Ambassador’ for the dancer who will best represent the city of West Hollywood, and an ‘Embodiment Award: Fit & Firm’ for the dancer with the healthiest and fittest physique.
As a prize, the go-go dancer who wins the competition will receive $1,000, a Palm Springs weekend package, the opportunity to grace the cover of Frontiers and more.
“We planned this year’s festivities to coincide with the Tom of Finland Foundation’s exhibit opening at the Museum of Contemporary Art, both organizations being new partners who joined the festival this year,” says Vic Gerami, Frontiers Advertising Director. “West Hollywood will be buzzing with excitement as we celebrate the city’s go-go dancing origins, honor the creator of Go-Go Appreciation Day, Mayor Pro Tem John D’Amico, and bring the community together.”
Last year’s winner of the second annual Go-Go Dancer Appreciation Day Competition, Vladimir Shmygol, appeared on the cover of the magazine’s annual nightlife issue. Shmygol will take part in this year’s competition as a judge, alongside CSI’s Gerald McCullouch, The Advocate’s Matthew Breen and International Mr. Leather No. 29, 2007, Mike Gerle. Other celebrity judges are yet to be confirmed.
Billy Francesca will host the competition, with DJ Derek Monteiro providing the night’s soundtrack. Following the festival and competition, Frontiers will host an official after-party at Micky’s, beginning at 10:30 p.m.
The campaign has officially launched at FrontiersLA.com/GoGo2013, where everyone is encouraged to vote for their favorite L.A. go-go dancer.
