Soho Theatre in London is a thriving arts hub, currently under the Artistic Direction of Steve Marmion. With 2 cabaret style spaces and a main house, their programme is bursting with exciting new theatre, comedy and cabaret.

Comedy duo ‘Guilt and Shame’ made up of performers Gabriel Bisset-Smith and Robert Cawsey bought their riotous Edinburgh show to the Soho Theatre upstairs this month. The two energetic and engaging performers introduce us to group therapy like nothing you have seen of before. Its clever use of narrative sketch, punctuated by high energy dance numbers and a rapping transvestite thrown in for good measure, the audience were left rolling in the aisles. Unfortunately they were only on for 3 nights but we at TheGayUK are quite certain it won’t be the last time! On the other end of the cabaret spectrum, Arthur Smith brings his Edinburgh show, ‘Arthur Smith Sings Leonard Cohen Vol II’ to the newly renovated Soho Downstairs cabaret venue. Arthur is joined onstage by the beautiful ‘Smithettes’, a multitalented group of musical ladies. Throw in a naked man playing the accordion and you have something for everyone! Through the songs of Leonard Cohen and the poetry of Leonard Nimoy, he tells the touching story of the life of his mother Hazel. The show has you in fits of laughter one minute and close to tears the next, a surprisingly moving piece.
If you are tired of your usual Soho haunts, the friendly service and the buzzing atmosphere in the bar make it a great place just to go and hang out for a drink and peruse their spring programme. Teas and coffees are served in the bar as well as their rage of wines, beers and spirits, the pizzas are pretty good too if you fancy a light bite. Their cosy banquette seating and low lighting makes it a great place to take a date in the evening as well.
