A Dublin music producer has transformed Panti Bliss’s recent Abbey Theatre speech on equality into a current chart hit.

Two weeks ago, Irish drag queen Panti Bliss was invited to deliver the ‘Nobel Call’ on the stage of the Abbey Theatre, Dublin. Her powerful speech reignited the debate around homophobia in Ireland and spurred public expressions of support.
‘Oppression’, produced by Out!rage, samples the now iconic speech over an original house beat with an upbeat twist and has garnered widespread support from Senator David Norris, the Union of Students of Ireland, SIPTU, Mr Gay Ireland and many others both in Ireland and overseas. Stuart Clark, Deputy Editor of Hot Press has declared it a “banging house tune”.
Ger Byrne, the talent behind the single is both delighted and surprised at the enormous response that it has received. The single stormed into the Top 10 iTunes charts and Ger is encouraging people to download the hit this week and send it to number 1. All proceeds from the single go to BeLonG To, the national organisation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered (LGBT) young people, aged between 14 and 23.
Panti (aka Rory O’Neil) is delighted with the response, “I couldn’t be more thrilled that Out!rage has found a way to turn my speech into something so catchy while supporting the fantastic work of BeLonG To at the same time. I thought I was too old for the dance music charts, but maybe not!”
Michael Barron, Founding Director of BeLong To “We are delighted to support this Out!rage/Panti single. We want to thank Panti and Out!rage for their generosity in donating all the proceeds from this single to BeLong To and our work to end homophobia and transphobia in Ireland. Let’s get this to Number One”.
