A real Northern Soul…from Sam Dickinson’s debut Album ‘The Stories that Occurred’
The North East of England, the Motown ‘Detroit’ industrial vibes of the Nissan Car factory coupled with the heavy industrial roots of the region have conspired and blessed us with Singer, Songwriter Sam Dickinson. Over the last four years he has honed his talents and now delivers his Soulful homage to Motown and Northern Soul. The Album has echoes of Jackie Wilson, Gene Pitney and fellow northerners The Beautiful South, giving the album a fresh but familiar, warm almost nostalgic sound.
From ‘How it Used to be’ – a rocky Ike & Tina Turner style floor filler, to the Gene Pitney drama of ‘Don’t Come Running Back’ to the Disco beat Nile Rodgers feel of ‘I’ve Gone, I’ve Quit’ – This Debut release has some real musical gems, 10 tracks of pure Soulful Pop.
Counting Beverley Knight, Mica Paris, Gabrielle and Jaki Graham amongst his legions of fans. He has charted in YouTube’s Top 40 as well as iTunes Top 40 Soul Chart with both his album ‘The Stories That Occurred’ and his last single ‘Lift Your Head’.
On the 3rd August Sam will release a special 37 track edition of ‘The Stories That Occurred’ which will include remixes, acoustic versions and instrumentals of the songs originally featured on the album. The album will be preceded by the new single ‘When You Left Me’ with the video premier happening on Monday 7th July. The video was filmed solely through the iPhone and features Dickinson struggling to write a letter to the loved one he’s lost.
‘The Stories that Occurred – Deluxe Edition’ is out 03/08/14 on iTunes and available for pre order from 30/06/14.
