by Newsdesk | 12th May 2014
Shaun Dellenty, Alfred Salter Primary School Deputy Head-teacher and founder of the award-winning www.inclusionforall.co.uk anti-homophobic bullying project will today attend Trinity School in Lewisham to meet with the Archbishop of Canterbury; the most Reverend Justin Welby. Trinity School is a strongly Christian school with an inclusive ethos for students of all faiths, in addition to those who have none. The Archbishop will be accompanied by key personnel from Lambeth Palace, the National Palace and the Diocese and Southwark Diocesan Board of Education.
The Archbishop of Canterbury will be launching new guidance materials ‘Valuing All God’s Children’ to support Church of England schools in taking positive actions to prevent homophobic bullying. Mr Dellenty will be participating in a group discussion on the subject of addressing homophobia in schools, with the Archbishop of Canterbury and LGBT students of Trinity School.
Mr Dellenty recently spoke to all students and staff at Trinity school about his own experiences as a survivor of homophobic bullying and of his Inclusion For All work during morning worship. In 2013 Mr Dellenty was invited to meet with LGBT students at Trinity School to discuss their own experiences by Father Mike Todd, Chaplain and Executive Assistant to the Headmaster Father Richard Peers. Mr Peers Tweeted afterwards Shaun Dellenty is ‘The best speaker I have ever heard on tackling homophobia’.
In 2013 Mr Dellenty hosted a one day anti-LGBT bullying conference at Harrow School which was attended by Chaplains of Faith schools from across Southwark and Greater London; Inclusion For All is now referenced in the ground breaking Church of England guidance materials.
In 2012 and 2013 Shaun Dellenty was named as one of the 101 ‘most influential LGBT people in the UK today’ by readers of the Independent on Sunday.
In 2013 and 2014 Shaun Dellenty was nominated ‘LGBT Positive Role Model’ at the National Diversity Awards and Royal Air Force ‘Inspirational LGBT Role Model’ at the Out in the City/G3 Awards.
