Community Outreach Specialist Peer Advocate
POSITION SUMMARY: The Peer Advocate uses their lived experience with the MSM population to coordinate delivery of services to young adults with or at risk of contracting HIV and possible past or present history of alcohol/substance abuse.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Statement of Duties
- Contributes in bringing a specified amount of MSM tests during the academic semester period by utilizing personal social networks and other means.
- Establish and develop appropriate consumer relationships of trust, hope and empowerment by sharing own life experiences in order to encourage clients to test and ultimately reduce their risk of infection.Tend to clients in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere while providing excellent customer service and support the flow of prevention activities.
- Provide data monthly to program supervisor for reporting purposes.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE (CREDENTIALS), EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Minimum requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience in working with the LGBT community and ability to reach MSM individuals in a friendly setting, including but not limited to personal social networks.
- Basic knowledge/experience entering data into Excel and using Micosoft Word.

- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
