Tom Daley, and partner Dustin Lance Black along with a reported 300 other passengers and crew had been left stranded in Russia over night after the Virgin Atlantic flight from Shanghai had to make an emergency landing, due to a ‘technical issue’.
Tom and Dustin both uploaded frightening footage yesterday of thousands of litres of fuel being dumped somewhere over Mongolia, before the Airbus A340 touched town in a small town called Irkutsk in south-eastern Russia.
Taking to social networks, Dustin Lance Black, an award winning screenwriter and activist said, ‘Last minute shopping in Irkutsk… we hope! #Siberia’
Tom Daley said, ‘We are coming home!!!! Flight leaves in around an hour 😀 can’t wait to be back home! Thanks for working hard to get us home @VirginAtlantic’
A spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic said, ‘Virgin Atlantic can confirm that the VS251 travelling from Shanghai to London Heathrow has diverted to Irkutsk Airport, Russia, as a precautionary measure due to a technical issue. Safety and security is always our top priority.
‘The aircraft is currently on the ground and our customers are being looked after by our cabin crew. Our priority now is to ensure our customers resume their journey as soon as possible. The airline would like to thank passengers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused. ‘
A few months ago, Dustin was involved in a separate airline incident, where the landing gear of the flight he was on failed.
