SAGE is seeking a full-time Director of Institutional Giving to join a dynamic Development Department. The Director of Institutional Giving will report to and work closely with the Senior Director of Development along with various stakeholders including the Executive Director and Senior program managers to secure foundation, government and corporate foundation grants and contracts. S/he will be responsible for researching prospective funders, developing strategies to secure new funding relationships, drafting and editing all proposals, and assisting in the editing and development of written materials for development department initiatives. The Director of Institutional Giving will be an integral member of the Development Department. The ideal candidate will have a diverse development background and a strong desire to support SAGE’s development effort across its institutional giving portfolio.
Director Institutional Giving
The Director of Institutional Giving will be responsible for management and achievement of the Institutional Giving program, including all public and private funding which includes federal, city, state, foundation and corporate revenue. Write and track funding proposals and budgets in collaboration with other staff. Research and cultivate funding prospects. Prepare interim and final grant reports. This position will have a key role in revenue generation and cultivation for the organization in all three areas with a growing focus on creating strategic partnerships in the corporate sector.
Essential Duties:
- Develop and execute plans to meet revenue goals and other metrics of SAGE’s Strategic Plan. Work in concert with key internal stakeholders (Sr. Director of Development, Executive Director, Program officers and other senior staff).
- Develop and institute policies to run the Institutional Giving program effectively. Maintain policies and procedures manual for individual area of responsibility.
- Supervise the Corporate & Foundations Relations Officer position and oversee related activities which include developing corporate revenue, strategic partnerships and event sponsorships.
- Systematically research, cultivate, secure and steward grants (from existing and new funders) to meet institutional funding goals.
- Identify relevant Requests for Proposals (RFP), Continued Funding Applications (CFA), and Letters of Intent (LOI) and other funding activities and generate competitive applications.
- Execute the timely writing, editing, and completion of all proposals and funding applications, both general operating support and project-specific.
- Lead and manage the stewardship and reporting processes for all institutional funding sources.
- Cultivate long-term relationships with corporate, foundation and other institutional officers responsible for making funding decisions, to ensure continued funding and funder engagement.
- Create and maintain positive relationships with program staff, and work effectively with them to achieve the goals of the Development Department, including funder relationship management and reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Minimum 4-5 years of fundraising experience with demonstrated success in the research, identification, analysis, solicitation and stewardship of grants.
- This candidate must have corporate and foundation development and proposal writing experience, with a proven ability to secure grants and contracts, familiarity with the corporate funding community and knowledge of government (federal, state, city and private) funding sources.
- Excellent verbal, interpersonal and group communications skills.
- Exceptional administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex information and budgets.
- Ability to write effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Successful track record of collaboratively working with a wide range of constituents, both internal and external.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment when appropriate; strong decision-making skills.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in all programs of the current Microsoft Office suite and the major component parts of Raiser’s Edge.
Additional Qualifications:
Ability to work in a fast paced environment; commitment to the advancement of the LGBT community; previous experience with non-profit organization preferred; ability to work on individual and team-led projects. The ideal candidate will also have experience managing direct reports.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in related field preferred.
