West End is seeking a Director of Development to oversee its fundraising and communications efforts.​

West End Residences is a small, but growing nonprofit organization serving the most vulnerable and underserved New Yorkers.​ Since its founding in 1989, West End has provided safe and supportive transitional and permanent housing together with comprehensive services that assist and empower homeless and formerly homeless youth, families and older adults to live full and productive lives.​

 

West End’s programs include: West End Intergenerational Residence, which provides transitional housing with social services for homeless young mothers and their children as well as permanent, supportive housing for formerly homeless and low-income older adults under one roof on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.​ True Colors Residence, which provides permanent, supportive housing to formerly homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young adults (LGBT) in Central Harlem, and True Colors Bronx (currently under construction), a second 30-unit supportive housing residence for LGBT youth.​

 

West End is seeking a Director of Development to oversee its fundraising and communications efforts.​

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Work with Board Fundraising Committee to develop, coordinate, maintain, and implement the organization’s fundraising plan.​

 

  1. Engage in research to identify new individual, foundation, corporate, and government prospects.​

 

  1. Maintain funder database and provide regular grant tracking reports.​

 

  1. Compose grant proposals and direct-mail funding appeals and respond to all contributions on behalf of the agency.​

 

  1. Oversee development and planning of organization fundraising events.​

 

  1. Manage media and public affairs efforts to promote the organization (including website, social media, printed promotional materials, conducting informational sessions for volunteers, etc.​).​

 

  1. Collect information and complete initial drafts of major reports including board reports, project reports and presentations, and an annual report.​

 

  1. Oversee other organizational development support staff including social media consultant and interns or others.​

 

  1. Represent agency at external meetings related to both NYC homeless policy and organizational networking.​

 

  1. Represent agency at on-site meetings and tours for potential funders and community collaborators.​

 

  1. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.​

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college.​

 

  1. Three to five years nonprofit fundraising/​development experience.​ Knowledge of relevant foundation/​corporate funders.​

 

  1. Knowledge of City government and current NYC homeless policies.​

 

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.​

 

Salary: $55-$60K.​ Generous and comprehensive benefits package.​
