Copenhagen – A thrilling night last night saw the final of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. The crowd favourite Conchita Wurst from Austria took the crown with her rousing song Rise Like a Phoenix with a 290 points over all.

The competition got off to a great start from Ukraine with Tick Tock (a song we will no doubt be hearing in clubs around Europe for years to come). We finally saw the stage performances of the big 6, Spain and the UK’s entries defying the odds and producing amazing performances on the night.
More controversy shadowed the show, with Russia’s entry being booed several times, and lot of people commenting online about the strange ‘lady’ Conchita.
The visual effects team certainly out-did themselves, with effects such as magically appearing and disappearing CGI singers, ‘rain’ falling on the stage for Spain’s number, and of course Austria’s giant fire-wings.
What looked to be a tight contest between Sweden, The Netherlands and Austria, soon became a one-horse-race with Austria streaming ahead and taking an unbeatable lead with several countries still needing to call in their votes.
The contest now moves on to Austria, with the Austrian broadcaster confirming that they will be hosting the contest shortly after the final was completed.
We’ll be updating you on all the Eurovision news for next year’s contest as soon as it’s available!
We look forward to seeing you all again next year, live from Austria.
