Support GLSEN‘s national efforts in community-based organizing to champion LGBT issues in K-12 education. The Field Services Manager (FSM) oversees development of volunteer management tools and strategies to support our network of 40 chapters in 28 states. FSM will also work with Director of Field Services to develop engagement programs for GLSEN constituents and partner organizations.
Field Services Manager GLSEN
Responsibilities:
- Oversee development of volunteer recruitment, screening, orientation management, and training strategies and materials
- Help Chapter leaders build engaged and effective Boards and volunteer driven programs
- Support emerging chapters in establishing a sustainable local GLSEN presence
- Ensure volunteers comply with GLSEN’s ethics, governance and risk mitigation policies
- Create board and new member orientation materials
- Develop and maintain systems for tracking work of the Chapter network and other constituents and partnerships in the field
- Work with Director of Field Services and Chief Operating Officer to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our Field Services work.
- Play an integral role in the development and implementation of cross-departmental GLSEN programs and processes through input, review and dissemination of materials and tools
- Support Chapters with constituent engagement systems such as websites, constituent relationship management system, social media platforms, etc.
- Work with Director of Field Services to develop and manage a volunteer program to engage constituents outside of chapter network
- Work with Director of Field Services to develop student alumni program
- Engage state and local organizations working on LGBT issues in K-12 education and explore potential partnerships
- Work with Director of Field Services to develop and implement Employee Resource Group engagement program
- Be fully engaged as a Field Services Department staff member
- Assist with on-going departmental projects, planning and function
- Play lead role on selected projects and assist in overall departmental planning and development
- Maintain accurate contact information for Chapter and other contacts
- Document community-based advocate success stories and create other materials for GLSEN internal and external communication vehicles
- Provide some administrative assistance
- Other duties as assigned related to the department or as GLSEN’s representative
Required Skills
- Strong experience in non-profit management
- Experience working with grassroots organizing from a national level
- Strong knowledge of and experience with social media such as Facebook and Twitter, and their uses in community organizing
- Ability to be diplomatic, resolve conflict, and problem-solve
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and follow-up
- Willingness to travel up to 5 days per month
- Ability to create and work in collaborative environments
- Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience and two or three years work in related field
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of U.S. education system and LGBT issues in education
- Experience working with volunteers or local affiliates
- Experience with anti-oppression, youth-adult partnerships
This position is located in GLSEN’s New York City headquarters.
