Produced by arts charity Wise Thoughts, the Festival features some of the best established artists alongside fresh young ones and queer talent working across all the arts. So as well as films, they also have art exhibitions, performances and events.
Here then are our hot tips for what movies to go see:-
1) THE WAY HE LOOKS: Brazilian filmmaker Daniel Ribeiro’s touching coming-of-age story about a blind gay teenager is a sheer joy. It has already won the coveted Teddy Award for Best LGBT Film at the Berlinale, and only this week it has been announced that its been selected as Brazil’s Official Entry for a Best Foreign Picture Oscar Nomination.
Due for release in cinemas soon when we will publish our 5 Star Review and an exclusive interview with the Director.
2) STAND: A Russian gay couple witness a hate crime and decide to do their own amateur sleuthing when they realise the police won’t do anything about it. Driven by rage this compelling drama about Russia’s strict Anti-Gay laws shows the harsh reality of living under Putin’s regime.
3) BRACE (30 mins long): When Adam leaves his girlfriend and ‘comes out’ he finds that his dream of finding acceptance in London’s gay scene is not nearly going to be as easy as he thought. This inspired look at the complex world of finding a queer identity is thoughtfully done. Hard-hitting cinema at its best.
GFEST runs 13th – 20th November 2014
