Gay Immigration eBook: American By Proclamation – My 20+ Years as a Gay Illegal Immigrant

My husband and I have been together in the US for 23 years, and I’ve been undocumented the whole time. It hasn’t been easy. No one should be forced to live this way. Ours is a story about fighting for a love which is deemed illegal.

Frankly, it is very unnerving to come out of the shadows and share our story, even anonymously. But we feel it’s time. We feel abandoned, isolated and unwanted; outside of each other’s arms.  Particularly now that American politicians have excluded us from their current immigration reform plans.

At first we wanted to try and get our book published, but it seems odd to try and capitalize on a story like this. Plus, who would really care to buy a book like this? 23 years tells us no one can be bothered.  So we’ve posted 8 of 16 chapters online thus far.

American By Proclamation – My 20+ Years as a Gay Illegal Immigrant is a story about how 2 people found love, and then spent the rest of their lives trying to sustain it, when by definition, their love was literally illegal and could result in incarceration.

For whatever reason, we feel compelled to have someone listen to what we’ve lived these past 23 years. We’re just not convinced anyone cares, or that it’ll make a difference in our lives.  But Perhaps this story will help others somehow. If there is such a thing as ‘the butterfly effect’ then perhaps the whisper of our fledgling wings will have a ripple effect we can’t even understand.
