2014 New Hope Celebrates
Our Annual Pride Parade, (May 17, 2014), is the keystone of the festival. It personifies our diversity by featuring colorful bands, floats, and specialty troupes, while bringing together organizations of service, politics, youth, schools and churches. From noon to 1:00 pm all of these folks “strut their stuff” through town, with enthusiasm, gusto, sincerity and just plain good fun. It’s a party given by NHC, but the invitation is open to all.
We partner with our friends from Key West, Florida to fly the multicolored “rainbow flag”. We will again be hoisting the flag high above Main Street, and stores will fly their mini-versions, showing their collective support. During that week an estimated 13,000 visitors will line our area’s pathways and many will experience a stay at our inns, hotels and B and B’s—some for their annual return to be a part of the festivities and some for the first time ever.
NHC was founded in the summer of 2003 by Daniel Brooks and a small group of local gay business leaders.
Set along the banks of the scenic Delaware River, New Hope offers unique shopping; theater; historic barge, train and horse-drawn carriage rides; museums, art galleries and antique shops; fine restaurants and casual fare. Home of the famed Bucks County Playhouse (where stars like Liza Minnelli, Grace Kelly and Robert Redford launched their careers!) and the historic cabaret Odette’s – currently under going a massive renovation, New Hope’s nightlife is filled with live entertainment spots, dance clubs and piano bars where people of all genders and cultures mingle and mix with common respect and acceptance.
Since the early 1950′s New Hope has been a mecca for creative, artistic, and free spirited individuals to be who they are. More and more people are attracted to our community. many come to visit, and some decide to stay and make New Hope their home.
