The AIDS Walk Coordinator will develop and implement strategies for recruiting sponsors and participants for the event. The individual holding this position will constantly communicate with sponsors, team captains, media, and community groups. This is a temporary position that will be held until such time the event is complete and final record keeping and reporting is concluded.
AIDS Walk Coordinator
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, providing HIV testing and counseling services, traveling, driving and having reliable transportation, utilizing a computer for typing, online outreach and conducting research; utilizing a telephone; attending meetings; and presenting to small and large groups.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop Sponsor and Corporate Teams Recruitment Strategy
- Strategy/Target List should include businesses who’ve partnered with us before, large employers in the community with active LGBT business resource groups, etc.
- Use a 3 pronged approach:
- Can you sponsor the walk?
- Are you willing to support us with a corporate team?
- If no to both these, then is there in-kind support they can provide? (food, beverages, incentives, marketing, etc.)
- Schedule meetings to secure sponsors
- Develop Team Captain and Star Walker Recruitment Strategy
- Strategy/Target List should include contacts and tentative dates for the following:
- churches, colleges, individual community groups, LGBT organizations, public health sector, ally groups, minority organizations, PanHellenic councils for Greeks at universities
- Be sure to target any local donors or volunteers who have a history with the organization
- Bar Nights (need to have incentive)
- Bar Crawl 6 weeks prior to event
- Recruit and work with AIDS Walk Outreach Volunteers
- Develop a Local Marketing Target List, to include:
- Print Media
- Electronic Media
- Community Outreach Opportunities
- Maintain AIDS Walk Communication with Registrants and Star Walkers
- Send update and recruitment emails as per global schedule
- Conduct follow-up and fundraising check-in calls to touch base throughout the campaign
- Track fundraising progress
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and other Qualifications :
- Associate or Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with social media and networking preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills a must
- Must have sensitivity to, interest in and competence in cultural differences, HIV/AIDS, minority health, sexual practices, and a demonstrated competence in working with persons of color, and gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and other computer applications required
- Must have reliable transportation and valid Ohio driver’s license.
Other Information:
Background and reference checks will be conducted. Hours vary, including working some evenings and weekends based on workload. Individuals are not considered applicants until they have been asked to visit for an interview and at that time complete an application for employment. The employee must regularly lift and carry small packages of up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally carry supplies, materials, displays, and audio visual aids weighing up to 50 pounds to and from their car and to other locations within or outside of the office.
OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS PRESENT
Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens. Otherwise, there are no known occupational hazards in performing the job.
