Anchorage Pridefest- Anchorage, AK
Alaska PrideFest, presented by Identity, is the largest GLBTQA event in the state.
Anchorage Pridefest 2014
Last year during Alaska PrideFest Week, Identity decided to host an informal Dancing in the Streets Equality March, versus a conventional parade with floats, as seen in year’s past.
The reason was simple: Instead of cheering for us from the sidelines, jump on in and join us!
With gay marriage, equality in the work place and veteran benefit issues in Alaska on everyone’s minds, the LGBT community and its allies needed a reason to celebrate Our State of Pride.
Some called the march a success, while others missed the parade.
Identity works hard to make sure all of your voices are heard and decided to poll our Facebook fans who agreed to again host an Equality March, held outside Snow City Cafe at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14.
The idea is simple: Fun music, lots of colors, and a unified voice leading right into the Park Strip for this year’s PrideFestival.
While this again means we will not have floats to ride on, we will have our feet planted firmly on the ground, signs and flags waving high in the air, and hopefully a sense of inclusiveness and togetherness that makes Pride so effective.
Our Equality March is for everyone, our LGBT community and our friends. The support comes from us and with a powerful voice strong and growing, we hope this year’s efforts will be bigger and better than before.
