And it’s easy to see why: our collection of fabulous shops, fantastic restaurants, famous nightlife, and our proud LGBTQ legacy gives us a sense of community spirit unlike any other place.

The Assistant Director – External Affairs is responsible for oversight of the Alliance’s key priority around Market Identity. This management level role oversees all internal/external facing communication, marketing and public relations.

The Assistant Director – External Affairs reports to the Executive Director and oversees the Special Events Intern, Public Relations Coordinator and contracted design help. 

This senior level, full-time role is an ambassador for NBA and will be evaluated on his/her ability to maintain impeccable relationships with each business/organization on Northalsted Street. Further, this role requires strong written and verbal skills, along with key relationships in traditional and social media outlets, to promote NBA.

Key Responsibilities

• Marketing
  • Creates and oversees annual marketing plan highlighting the diversity of Northalsted and its history as an LGBT community
  • Develops market strategies both to promote NBA and its member businesses/organizations
  • Writes, edits and produces all event collateral
  • Serves as chief organization branding monitor
  • In coordination with ED, oversees the implementation of new branding
• Communication
  • Creates and oversees annual communication plan
  • Writes, edits and produces monthly membership newsletter
  • Serves as chief organizational editor
  • Develops and posts content on social media outlets
• Public Relations
  • Creates and oversees annual PR plan
  • Working with PR consultant develops, writes and pitches stories related to NBA and its member organizations
  • Maintains working relationships with traditional media outlets
  • Develops and maintains NBA media database
  • As requested, responds to media inquiries
• Special Events
  • Participates in special event meetings
  • Develops and implements media/communication/marketing plan for all special events
