The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s HRC Global program seeks an Associate Director for Research. The Associate Director will be responsible for researching, writing, and presenting on a range of topics related to the situation of LGBT equality around the world. In addition, the Associate Director will manage the project “The Export of Hate,” which focusses on American individuals and organizations engaged in the export of homophobia and transphobia to locations outside of the U.S.
The Associate Director will also monitor the media on a regular basis, and assist the Director in accomplishing program goals through additional research projects, coalition work, and representing the program at internal and external meetings and events.
Associate Director of Research HRC Global
- Serving as the program’s point person on the state of LGBT equality worldwide, including providing regular and ongoing country specific analysis, as well as global assessments of areas of improvement and areas of setback.
- Managing consultants and others to research American individuals and organizations engaged in the export of homophobia and transphobia to locations outside of the U.S;
- Creating a strategic plan for engaging in research;
- Turning research into materials that are easily consumable, including online content, profiles, and reports;
- Presenting research and representing the Program at internal and external meetings and events;
- Working with HRC’s internal teams to effectively communicate the results of research to the media and HRC’s membership;
- Working with coalition allies to coordinate research initiatives and to amplify the impact of existing research;
- Drafting memos and other summary documents to prepare the Director and Deputy Director for a wide range of meetings and speaking engagements;
- Monitoring the media and ensuring that HRC staff are informed about key international LGBT developments;
- Documenting the work of the Program and preparing information for Board reports and Board meetings;
- Assisting with completion of grant applications;
- Coordinating special projects when assigned; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required and a master’s degree preferred with at least 5 to 10 years of experience with conducting research on international human rights or related issues,
- Demonstrated ability to turn complex subject matter into easily consumable written products;
- Capability to communicate in a clear, concise, and culturally competent manner at both small meetings and larger events;
- Familiarity and comfort with speaking to the media;
- Creativity, curiosity, good judgment and a record of taking initiative;
- Experience with relationship building and coalition work;
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, hand multiple projects simultaneously, and work under tight deadlines;
- An understanding of the international LGBT issues;
- Proficiency in other languages highly valued;
