The Bridgemen Testing & Navigation Coordinator’s duties include supporting the development and implementation of Bridgemen, a community building and HIV prevention program designed to work with HIV-positive and HIV-negative gay, bisexual and transgender men in their 30’s and 40’s. Duties include community building, service project coordination, event planning & development and volunteer recruitment. Providing direct peer counseling, referrals, navigation services and linkage to care for high risk, HIV-negative and HIV-positive participants is a priority. This includes collaboration with internal partner programs including Positive Force, Magnet and HIV Testing Services.
Bridgemen Testing and Navigation Coordinator
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide direct program support as part of the Bridgemen team as needed.
- Works with Program Manager to identify and recruit appropriate m-group clients and/or other individuals in need of HIV prevention education and HIV/STI testing.
- Works with Program Manager to identify high risk clients and provide navigation support, peer counseling and linkage to continuum of care system via interagency program partners or other healthcare services.
- Works with the Core Group to develop a formal HIV testing outreach plan.
- Coordinate venue-based HIV testing events with SF DPH, Magnet, HIV Testing Services or others.
- Provide members of the program team with administrative and logistical support, including but not limited to day of event support, securing venues and maintaining supplies for community forums, workshops, outreach, social events and community service projects.
- Assist with development and facilitation of workshops, social events, service projects and community forums.
- Ability to help identify and recruit program participants and volunteers.
- Ability to work unsupervised to effectively motivate and direct program participants and volunteers at service project and social events.
- Train and empower core group members and volunteers on outreach techniques and models informal outreach practices.
- Participate in agency outreach activities at SF Pride, Folsom Street Fair, Up Your Alley Fair, and Castro Street Fair as needed.
- Assist walk-ins with general information about Bridgemen, SFAF, partner programs and HIV and STD’s.
- Enter client and survey data and assist with the reporting of contract deliverables to CDC.
- Disseminates safer sex and harm reduction messages to the target community.
- Assist with media and condom distribution.
- Other duties as assigned.
Other Skills and Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Outgoing personality with proven ability to speak comfortably in front of large groups. Comfort with sexually explicit material and language. Able to act on initiative, identify opportunities and be proactive in putting forward ideas & solutions. Ability to prioritize and work under short deadlines. Willingness to work in a team-based, multi-collaborative environment. Deep knowledge and comfort with HIV positive issues and the SF LGBT community and concerns. Knowledge of San Francisco’s HIV continuum of care system for HIV-positive individuals. Understanding of social norms theory and promotional marketing. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access Database. HIV test counselor experience and/or other peer-based support training preferred.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years experience in a public health organization or equivalent years of experience required.
ARTAS certification preferred but not required. Must have a valid California driver’s license and clean DMV record. This position will have access to protected health information (PHI) and may only access, use or disclose the minimum information necessary to perform their designated role on behalf of San Francisco AIDS Foundation, regardless of the extent of access provided.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Skill in operating office equipment such as a personal computer, copy machine and telephone system. Ability to perform routine bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and lifting. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position may have exposure to blood borne pathogens and other infectious agents.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is primarily located at 1035 Market Street, San Francisco, however may require traveling or relocating to other office locations or off-site meetings as required by the job. This job requires a flexible schedule including some evenings, weekends and limited holidays.
