(GayWebSource.com) Las Vegas, NV (9/16/2012) For over twenty years, Darlene was known as a well-mannered teacher in a Southern California school district. Unbeknownst to her colleagues and students, she also worked as a professional dominatrix for eighteen of those years. Now in her new book, Playing Darlene, the author gives readers a behind the scenes peek into the lives of those who work in the sex industry as well as how she managed to juggle such seemingly incompatible lives all the while embarking on her own personal journey.
While her two professions may seem polar opposites on the surface, Darlene, differs in opinion. “Whether I’m helping a student learn to speak English or playing a part in someone’s fantasy, I’m the facilitator who is making it possible for a fellow human being to reach his or her goal.”
While not grading school papers during her breaks at the “dungeon” where she worked in the Los Angeles area, Darlene began to write down the particulars about the assorted clients she played with and their sometimes bizarre roleplay requests. “I discovered I needed to keep notes about the various sessions so that I’d have the details handy in case the clients returned.” However, due to the controversial nature of the book, the names of those involved have been changed.
Darlene, who for years thought about exploring new sexual aspects of her personality before plunging into them, also hopes the book will empower more women to explore their own sexuality. “I hope my book will encourage ladies be more assertive in that respect. I believe too many women are made to feel that their own sexual desires are relatively unimportant.”
With everything from roleplaying a naughty shopaholic wife being spanked by her husband to wrapping up a muscular cross-dressing client in plastic and watching him wiggle, Darlene helped not only herself but also men realize their most secret desires. But what some people may consider out of bounds, Darlene sees as simply another approach to experiencing sexual pleasure. “What’s considered taboo varies from culture to culture. Let’s face it, this country is not the most open-minded when it comes to erotica, but we’re evolving…hopefully for the better. You only have to look at the bestseller lists for books to see that America is having a much more frank discussion regarding sex.”
Darlene’s true stories of balancing her two different personas are frequently shocking, at times hilarious, and occasionally touching, but at the heart of the story is a woman on a personal journey not only to reconcile with her past, but also to discover the full potential of her own sexuality.
In addition to her memoir, Darlene has also started an advice column, Dear Darlene, on her publisher’s website (www.chancespress.com) where readers are encouraged to submit those questions they’ve always wondered about but were afraid to ask about the BDSM lifestyle.
