This Christmas the LGSO present a concert of popular seasonal classics: bells will be ringing for Delius’ ‘Sleigh Ride’, trumpets will be sounding for Prokofiev’s ‘Lieutenant Kije’ (if that doesn’t sound familiar, you’ll surely recognize it from that other seasonal classic, ‘I Believe In Father Christmas’) and the strings will be soaring for Tchaikovsky’s First Symphony, AKA ‘Winter Dreams’. We’ll also be serving the season’s must-have mince pies and mulled wine.

This Christmas we’ll also be guest orchestra for An Evening of Movies and Musicals at Apollo Victoria Theatre on 1st December, featuring West End musical stars John Owen Jones, Louise Dearman, Gareth Gates and presented by Christopher Biggins.

Founded in 1996, the LGSO has given four (or more) concerts every year for the past seventeen years at national venues including the Royal Festival Hall; toured internationally to Paris and Zagreb; performed with Jimmy Somerville, Rosalind Plowright and Sue Perkins; recorded a score for the cult film Pervirella; commissioned new work from upcoming composers; and raised thousands for charities including Amnesty International, Crusaid and Albert Kennedy Trust. The orchestra’s patrons include Paul Gambacinni. and Sandi Toksvig.
