Responsibilities

The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks including, but not limited to: event planning and execution; correspondence with donors, volunteers and others; community outreach; public education; conducting online research on a variety of topics; and various administrative tasks, including telephone coverage and data entry. The intern’s specific responsibilities will vary for the duration of the term depending on the needs of the office. An intern, however, is also welcome to focus on areas in which she/he is particularly interested, subject to the needs of the office.

Interns will assist staff in combating all forms of LGBT and HIV discrimination. Thus, a background in, or familiarity with, related issues, legal or otherwise, will greatly strengthen the application.

Candidates for the internship should have a strong commitment to social justice, equality and civil rights issues, particularly those involving the LGBT and HIV-affected communities. Strong organizational skills are a must. Additionally, a desire to learn, strong communication, analytical skills and the ability to be a team player are a plus. An ideal candidate will also possess the ability to self-motivate, work with varying levels of supervision and adapt to a variety of tasks.

Application

Applicants should send a resume, cover letter and 1 to 2 page writing sample to etablada@lambdalegal.org. The cover letter should include the applicant’s hours of availability for the semester/term and the phone numbers and titles of two references.
