The LGBT Campus Resource Center Director assumes direct responsibility for the LGBT Campus Resource Center and serves a vital, pivotal role in the administration of the Center and the development of the Center’s programs, policies, and practices. The Director oversees supervision of professional staff, development and fundraising for the Center, campus climate and policy initiatives regarding LGBTQ inclusion, and relationships with key stakeholders. Additionally, the Director provides support, education, and advocacy to the UCLA campus, prospective students, UCLA families, and community partners regarding sexual orientation and gender identity issues. The Director conducts self in the manner necessary for an effective and busy Student Affairs department with high visibility and use.

The UCLA Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Campus Resource Center provides a comprehensive range of education, information and advocacy services and works to create and maintain an open, safe and inclusive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex, transgender, queer, questioning, and same-gender-loving students, faculty, and staff, their families and friends, and the entire campus community.

Qualifications Required/Preferred
1. Advanced degree required in order to teach in the University’s academic program. Advanced degree in Education, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences, or Humanities preferred.

2. Minimum of two years’ professional experience working with college students, including experience in group facilitation and multicultural programs development.

3. Excellent oral and written communication skills to present information clearly and effectively to individuals, small and large groups. Skills acting as a spokesperson.

4. Thorough knowledge of current issues regarding the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender student population.

5. Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and evaluate programs and support services that address issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.

6. Demonstrated skill in listening, counseling, and referring students to individuals, offices, or agencies, to resolve problems.

7. Current knowledge of national and state issues impacting the services and resources for the LGBT community.

8. Skills using word processing, database management, spreadsheet, presentation, electronic mail, and other software in a windows environment required. Web design and maintenance skills a plus.

9. Ability to multitask and handle changing priorities and conflicting deadlines. Work is in an active office.

10. Ability to interact effectively with a diverse population including students, faculty, administrators, family members, and the general community, from a variety of cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

11. Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to diversity issues and the cultural needs of university students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

12. Demonstrated understanding of diversity that includes but is not limited to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ability, socioeconomic level, religion, political persuasion, and documentation status.

13. Working knowledge of student learning outcomes.

14. Demonstrated commitment to a student-focused operation.

15. Excellent interpersonal communication, leadership, supervision, and mediation skills.

16. Working knowledge of promotional and marketing strategies.

17. Knowledge of university policy and procedures, including policies governing the use of university funds and facilities, as well as those governing development efforts.

18. Demonstrated experience in policy review and advocacy efforts.

19. Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.

20. Experience with acquiring external funding, cultivating relationships with possible donors, and working knowledge of grant resources to support the LGBT community.
