Pride Foundation seeks a highly skilled, enthusiastic, and motivated Director of Community Engagement based at its regional headquarters in Seattle. This is a fast-paced and pivotal position for a creative and dynamic team player who wants to use their skills and experiences to positively affect change for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people and their families that will endure for generations to come.

Pride Foundation is a regional community foundation that inspires giving to expand opportunities and advance full equality for LGBTQ people across the Northwest, including Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. Through grants, scholarships, and initiatives, Pride Foundation has invested over $50 million in hundreds of nonprofit organizations, local leaders, and student scholars since our founding in 1985.

For almost 30 years, Pride Foundation has been at the forefront of shaping our communitys legacy in the region—helping define our movement by showing the impossible is possible. Pride Foundation is now uniquely positioned to leverage our progress, respond rapidly to the shifting landscape, bring the next set of priorities for the LGBTQ community to the forefront of philanthropy, and mobilize even more resources to keep our momentum going for the next 30 years.

Pride Foundation has a $2.7 million operating budget with 14 full-time employees and several student interns. It is governed by a Board of Directors with 22 members from across the five-state region with diverse professional and personal backgrounds.

Principal Responsibility

The Director of Community Engagement provides the leadership, strategic direction, management, and evaluation of Pride Foundations donor engagement and fundraising efforts. The Director reports to the Executive Director and manages a team of two.

Ongoing Responsibilities

• Serve as a member of Pride Foundations senior management team.
• Partner with the Executive Director on institutional priorities and long-range planning, including deepening our culture of philanthropy.
• Provide guidance and support to the Executive Director, staff, and Board of Directors in the areas of community engagement, partnerships, and fundraising.
• Develop and maintain close working relationships with the philanthropic community, individual and corporate donors, sponsors, and community partners.
• Maintain a proactive, creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individual, foundation, and corporate contributions; cultivate and directly solicit key donors, working with the Executive Director, Board Members, and key volunteers.
• Oversee all development activities and operations, including event production, donor and gift record-keeping, gift processing and acknowledgement, and databases, records, and files.
• Supervise all grant writing, prospect research, and reporting to funders.
• Manage design, production, and distribution of all development collateral materials.
• Help inform and shape overall communications strategies and activities.
• Coordinate development activities with other facets of the organization.
• Supervise development staff and various consultants.

Professional Experience

• Established and effective communicator; highly skilled in writing and speaking; the ability to communicate Pride Foundations mission and interests to a broad audience; adept at crafting proposals, donor correspondence, and other kinds of materials.
• A successful track record of personally identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual donors, corporations, and foundations for support.
• Knowledge of major gifts, annual funds, corporate and foundation giving, direct mail, planned giving, and special events.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and quickly gain the respect and support of various constituencies, including board and staff members, donors, foundation and civic leaders, volunteers, and community partners.
• Very strong technology skills; must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Excel.

• Highly entrepreneurial; resourceful, and flexible, with the ability to anticipate and act on events and opportunities which advance Pride Foundations mission locally, regionally, and nationally.
• A team builder with strong skills in management and leadership; must understand the subtleties of motivating and directing a diverse group of personalities.
• A catalyst with vision who can create excitement and energy around Pride Foundations programs and encourage others to support the organization; persuasive, persistent, and determined in the pursuit of the organization’s fundraising goals.
• Straightforward and self-possessed; one who shares information readily, listens as well as gives advice and respects the abilities of others; diplomatic.
• Energetic and willing to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of fundraising activities ranging from the day-to-day to the highly creative and visible.
• Willingness to travel and to work long hours as necessary.
• A sense of humor and the ability to work joyfully in a fast-paced environment.
