The Center is seeking a Director of Cultural Engagement responsible for cultivating and managing relationships with arts, cultural and entertainment partners to showcase and sometimes produce unique experiences at The Center, engaging a broad and diverse audience.
Director of Cultural Engagement
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify, develop and manage relationships with independent artists and arts, culture and entertainment partners, bringing a diverse LGBT & allied audience to The Center.
- In collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer, develop a strategic engagement evaluation rubric; serve as the point person to screen and evaluate requests for cultural engagement, determining whether to produce, sponsor, host or pass on opportunities.
- Develop and maintain an annual calendar of arts, cultural and entertainment opportunities, including measurable goals which prioritize partnerships that draw key, strategic audiences to The Center.
- Working in collaboration with The Center’s MCS department and Events and Production Manager, as well as partnered organizations, produce and curate related arts, cultural and entertainment programs and exhibitions. Ideally, exhibitions will occur on a consecutive, rolling basis, with at least one (1) monthly arts, culture or entertainment opportunity presented for the community.
- Ensure programming done in partnership reflects positively on The Center, amplifies our mission and brand, and represents the broad diversity of the LGBT and allied community.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the Pat Parker/Vito Russo Library and National LGBT Community Center Archive volunteer base, programming (e.g. Second Tuesdays) and operations; identify opportunities to capitalize on existing infrastructure and expand/broaden their reach.
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Bureau of General Services Queer Division (BGSQD); execute collaborative programming with BGSQD where identified.
- In collaboration with the communications and marketing team, develop outreach and marketing for all arts, culture and entertainment related events.
- In collaboration with Center programming staff, identify and implement opportunities to broaden the reach and impact of social service programming through arts, cultural and entertainment programs.
- Identify and develop opportunities that maximize earned income potential and facilitate/support fundraising.
- In collaboration with the finance team, develop and manage the arts, culture and entertainment programming budget; manage expenses to budget.
- Other duties as needed.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- A minimum five (5) years professional experience in arts or cultural administration and management, with a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in program development, project management, event production, volunteer/staff supervision, community organizing and outreach.
- Experience with marketing, ticketing and managing audiences for arts, cultural and/or entertainment events.
- Excellent leadership, administrative, organization, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of personalities.
- Strong commitment to inclusive, multi-cultural programming; prior experience working with diverse communities.
- A flexible, creative, assertive, self-starter a must.
- Knowledge and understanding of LGBT communities and their issues/interests.
- A strong commitment to the mission of The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center.
