<p>This spring the LGSO follow up February’s riotous Russian concert with another Soviet Classic – the Saxophone Concerto by Glazunov, for which we’ll be joined by hot young soloist Huw Wiggin.</p>

<p>But we begin our program in sunnier climes with Elgar’s overture ‘In The South’, subtitled ‘Alassio’ - the Italian town where he holidayed in 1903 - because its scenery and history provided the inspiration for this English classic. In the second half we go Bohemian, heading back north to Austria for Symphony No.1 by Mahler, sometimes subtitled ‘Titan’ - perhaps in reference to the massive musical forces it requires (almost one hundred players!). We plan on starting our summer (if we ever get one) with a very big bang.</p>

<p>London Gay Symphony Orchestra is the UK's oldest LGBT Orchestra and one of only a handful in the world. Founded in 1996, the LGSO has given concerts four times (or more) every year for the past sixteen years at venues throughout the UK including the Royal Festival Hall; toured internationally to Paris and Zagreb; performed with Jimmy Somerville, Simon Callow, Rosalind Plowright and Sue Perkins; recorded a score for the cult film Pervirella; commissioned new work from upcoming composers; and raised thousands of pounds for charities including Amnesty International, The Food Chain, Crusaid and Albert Kennedy Trust. </p>

<p>The orchestra’s patrons include Sandi Toksvig, Paul Gambacinni, and Simon Fanshawe.</p>
