EuroPride 2013
The Europride is the greatest international LGBT event in Europe. This year, the pride comes to Marseille, mediterranean city of more than 2600 years of history. During 10 days, a militant, artistic, cultural and festive program is organised through the city, and more particularly in symbolic places such as «la Friche de la Belle de Mai» or the «Dock des Suds».
This year, it’s Marseille’s, a Mediterranean city with over 2600 years of history, turn to host it. Lasting 10 days, a activist, artistic, cultural and festive programme is organised all over the city, and most importantly in Marseille’s emblematic hotspots, such as la Friche de la Belle de Mai and Docks des Suds. Marseille will therefore be European LGBT Capital alongside being European Capital of Culture…
How could we even dream of a better moment of visibility?!
Saturday, July 20th will see the huge EuroPride parade start at the Vieux Port to bring us to Prado Beach. It will be preceded by a programme of cultural, artistic, musical, festive and sporting events. 2013 will be a referential year for the French LGBT community. In a similar manner to the decriminalisation of homosexuality in 1982, to the introduction of the PACS (civil partnerships) in 1999, 2013 will see the enactment of the law which authorises civil marriage for people of the same sex, alongside adoption rights. Although incomplete, we are placing great hope in this advancement.
This event, your presence, will be of huge importance for our country, and our city, which is known for being welcoming and diverse. For this occasion, we are allowing 2013 couples of the same sex, who come from all over Europe, to unite on the Mucem square, on the Mediterranean’s edge. Marseille will also be LGBT Capital of Culture at the same time as European Capital of Culture…
Vibrate, live, discover our beautiful Phocaen City on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea. You can make the most of the historical town, the new Joliette district on the Euro-Mediterranean, dine on the port, meander in the designers’ and creators’ district – Cours Julien – , visit the historic Panier district – Plus Belle la Vie – and even make the most of our specially equipped beach.
A full programme has been specially concocted with conferences, debates, culture, alongside the big names in contemporary art, festivities, a beach, sport, films and gastronomy. The entirety of Marseille is proud to welcome the LGBT community!
