Arcola Queer Collective A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Holly Revell

Tuesday 20th – Saturday 24th January, 8pm. Sat matinee: 3.30pm. £9 (£7 concs).

By William Shakespeare, with new text by Patrick Cash

"If we shadows have offended…" Shakespeare's Dream is radically interpreted in the first production from the Arcola Queer Collective, Arcola’s newest community performance company.

Welcome to the forest. A surreal world of fairies, spells, incantations, magic – disorder made right by the mischief of the night.

When four young lovers escape to the woods, they find themselves embroiled in a battle of wills between the fairy king and queen. Nearby, a group of rude mechanicals are rehearsing for a performance at the wedding of Duke Theseus. When everyone’s paths cross, they become entangled in a heady, unpredictable chaos: one that threatens to tear the fair kingdom apart.

Blending cabaret, drag, spoken word, music and movement with Shakespeare’s original words, and a new text devised by Patrick Cash and the company, this Dream offers a provocative, darkly comedic meditation on love and relationships in the 21st century.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a community lead production that showcases the array of talent, creativity and fierceness held within this community. This project was supported by Outsavvy: “an all-inclusive website that works with LGBT friendly businesses whether they are gay establishments or whether they simply wish to demonstrate their support for the LGBT community.”

In order to secure a future project for the Arcola Queer Collective we will be hosting a fundraising Gala Performance on the Friday 23rd January.

All tickets are £30. Includes admission to the show, drinks, canapes, post show discussion and music from Rudi Douglas. Support the Collective to create their next show!
