Equality California is the largest statewide LGBT civil rights advocacy organization in California. Equality California, together with our allies, has successfully sponsored more than 100 pieces of pro-equality legislation. EQCA continues to advance equality through legislative advocacy, electoral work, public education and community empowerment. We are searching for a field manager to implement our programming work for EQCA and its sister organizations, Equality California Institute and Equality California PAC, in the Bay Area region.
Field Manager Equality California
The Field Manager is pivotal in engaging community members in Equality California’s campaign to win equal rights for all Californians, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. The Field Manager is a full-time position with responsibility for developing a plan for their designated region in coordination with local partners, and for the implementation of that plan. The Field Manager will ensure that interns and volunteers are appropriately trained, motivated, and engaged in meaningful activities likely to enhance EQCA’s grassroots lobbying and public education campaigns, aid in the local development of EQCA action teams, and seek to engage key community leaders in ways likely to influence support for LGBT rights.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for EQCA’s field work to build a groundswell of visible support for LGBT equality
- Identify opportunities for education on LGBT issues and volunteer recruitment in designated regions identified by EQCA, allied organizations, supportive local leaders, and individuals to develop local, strategic activist groups
- Identify local organizations that have the capacity and willingness to help EQCA build a grassroots network in their area
- Develop a schedule of outreach and visibility events designed to engage local activists and increase number of supporters within region and assist with development of organized local groups
- Identify and cultivate allies among local faith, social justice, community of color, and political organizations for coalition building and to increase awareness of EQCA’s campaign
- Manage all volunteer operations within designated region, including the training, motivation, and deployment of volunteers
- Organize major public events, conferences and training opportunities
- Accurately track and assess program productivity utilizing required computer and database management skills
- Become certified to enroll individuals in health insurance policies under the Affordable Care Act. Recruit and train volunteers, and oversee their becoming certified. Work with volunteers to identify uninsured or underinsured Californians and enroll them in health insurance policies under the Affordable Care Act
- Organize outreach actions for EQCA’s PAC-endorsed candidates. This involves member-to-member contact to elect pro-equality legislators at various levels.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated success recruiting, motivating, training, and managing volunteers.
- Prior experience developing and managing a volunteer program is a plus.
- Ability to be a team player and work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility and willingness to work early mornings, evenings and weekends.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including listening skills.
- Attention to detail and measurable results.
- Bilingual is a plus
- Prior political campaign experience is valuable.
- Prior experience working in the LGBT community is advantageous.
- Experience using, or strong desire to learn, software and databases for voter files and volunteers
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and responsible self-starter.
- Strategic thinking and planning abilities.
- Computer and Internet literacy.
- Ability to work effectively with people of diverse ethnicities, race, age, gender identity, and sexual orientation in a multicultural environment.
