<p>The UK's Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has said that gay marriage is one of the reasons he loves the UK.</p> <p>by Newsdesk | 9th March 2014</p><p></p><p> </p><p><img src="http://www.thegayuk.com/communities/8/004/009/928/388/images/4607012456.jpg" width="359" height="359" alt="" title=""/></p> <p></p><p>In his speech at the Liberal Democrat's annual conference in York, the Deputy PM certainly said he loved a lot of things about Britain, including:</p><p></p><p>- The telephone</p><p>- The steam engine</p><p>- The jet engine</p><p>- The world wide web</p><p>- Oscar winning visual effects</p><p>- Theatre, fashion, music, film </p><p>- Pomp and ceremony </p><p>- Irreverence towards its establishment </p><p>- Prince George</p><p>- Private Eye</p><p>- Queuing </p><p>- The BBC </p><p>- The NHS </p><p>- Multicultural cities </p><p>- The feeling of freedom </p><p>- The shipping forecast </p><p>- T-shirts and flip-flops at the first glimpse of sun</p><p>- Human rights and the rule of law</p><p>- The European Convention on Human Rights and the Single Market</p><p>- A cup of tea</p><p>- The Premier League</p><p>- Gay marriage</p><p></p><p></p><p>Specifically on being gay Clegg said:</p><p></p><p>'I look at what's happening in places like Russia, where the government is effectively criminalising homosexuality, and I love that Britain is a place where you can be gay and proud – and now you can get married too.'</p><p></p><p>Last month Nick Clegg went on record to state that <a href="http://www.thegayuk.com/magazine/4574334751/OBAMA-Warns-Uganda-Against-Anti-Gay-Law/7541861">the anti-gay situation in Uganda</a> <a href="http://www.thegayuk.com/magazine/4574334751/UK's-Deputy-Prime-Minister-Uganda-Anti-Gay-Law-'abhorrent'/7609944">was 'abhorrent'</a> </p><p></p><p>The Lib Dem leader also lambasted <a href="http://www.thegayuk.com/magazine/4574334751/tags/UKIP">UKIP</a>, saying that Nigel Farage was 'ungenerous, backwards-looking'. UKIP has been drawn into a number of dispute because of their members' views on homosexuality. </p><p> </p>

Last month Nick Clegg went on record to state that the anti-gay situation in Uganda was 'abhorrent'
