Out & About Nashville, Inc.​ (O&AN)  is now hiring two contract positions:

Gay Print and Digital Site Seeking Contract Part-time Digital Editor

The company is splitting its former full-time managing editor/​creative director position into two contract positions.​ Should two candidates not be found for the two contract positions, we may consider merging the positions back into one.​

Each of these jobs would require the following work be done.​ These are contract work-from-home positions and no equipment will be provided.​ O&AN is a monthly LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) magloid format publication, with associated digital properties including an active website at www.​outandaboutnashville.​com.​ O&AN is Tennessee’s largest and only state-wide LGBT publication.​ The company has been in business since Oct.​ 2002.​

Digital Editor

Working closely with the print editor/​creative director, this person is responsible for the overall content and management of day-to-day operations of O&AN digital properties including its associated website(s), Facebook, Twitter, breaking news blasts, weekly electronic newsletter and any other digital properties.​ Will work with the print editor/​creative director to set overall editorial focus of digital properties.​ This has an anticipated contract payment of $1,000 to $1,200 per month.​

• Source, develop and write local LGBT news stories, with an emphasis on hard news and breaking news.​ Will develop shorter breaking stories for digital properties and share with digital editor for more in-depth stories and research.​
• Write and post breaking news on O&AN Web site as needed and sending out breaking news alerts via email, twitter and other electronic means
• Review, edit, and post as necessary, news releases to web site
• Prepare, edit and send out a weekly email “newsletter” to O&AN readers, working on content in tangent with print editor
• Write a minimum of one new story each day for O&AN web site (Monday – Friday)
• Represent O&AN at community functions and serve as an ambassador to the community
• Cultivate and develop volunteer writing staff for digital print properties
• Manage web site and adjust story flow and story order as necessary, including updating and adjusting.​
• Responsible for maintaining journalistic standards and edit all copy per AP style
• Attend and co-manage all staff meetings
• Maintain and post regularly to FaceBook, Twitter and other social networking sites.​ Manage interaction with readers
• Other duties as assigned

At a minimum a degree in communications or journalism is required, along with previous editorial and writing experience.​ Experience in managing digital communications is a plus.​ Flexible attitude, willingness to jump in and help is required.​ Candidate must be able to meet deadlines and because breaking news often happens, work in a quick pace, stressful environment.​ Candidate must a self-starter and self-motivated.​
