An evening of music, cabaret and cocktails to increase awareness of HIV among young gay men.

by GMFA | 2nd July 2014

Bridge Bar

The Bridge Bar in Clapham is hosting a night of music and cabaret with Julez Hamilton on Sunday, 13th July in support of GMFA’s HIV-prevention campaign ‘Think Again’ (www.gmfa.org.uk/thinkagainhiv).

The ‘Think Again’ campaign, which Stephen Fry described as ‘brilliant’, urges younger gay men to think again about HIV, challenging some of the myths and misconceptions about HIV and how it is transmitted. GMFA currently receives no statutory funding for its HIV-prevention work and relies on the generosity of the community to fund this vitally important health promotion and education work.

The evening at the Bridge Bar will also feature a grand auction and a raffle to help raise the vital funds. The Bridge Bar team has created their very own special Red Ribbon cocktail and will donate 50 per cent of the proceeds from the sale of the cocktail to the ‘Think Again’ campaign. We’re not telling you what’s in it – you’ll have to come along and try it for yourselves.

The ‘Think Again’ campaign urges young gay men to make sure they know the facts, protect themselves and get tested regularly for HIV. Since the campaign was launched at the end of April, it has been seen by over three million people, increasing the number of young gay men who access GMFA’s sexual health information on their website and leading to a four-fold increase in the number of HIV home-sampling kits ordered by young gay men from GMFA. Money raised at the fundraiser will enable the campaign to reach an even wider audience by paying for high profile adverts on bus shelters in Clapham, Vauxhall and Shoreditch.
