Graduate Assistant Gender Identity Initiatives

The Trans* Visibility and Awareness Coordinator (TVAC) position (one vacancy for Spring and Fall 2015).

The TVAC is a graduate student position during the Spring 2015 and Fall 2016 semesters. The successful staff member will have a passion for diversity and inclusion, be knowledgeable about gender identity and expression, possess strong critical thinking and problem solving skills, demonstrate initiative within appropriate sphere of influence, communicate effectively, and approach their work with enthusiasm and warmth.

This full time graduate assistantship (20 hours per week, some evenings or weekends if necessary) reports to the Assistant Director of the LGBT Resource Center and will assist in researching current gender diversity, gender identity, and transgender campaigns and initiatives on college campuses to help plan and implement an awareness campaign on gender identity and expression and transgender issues at UNF. The campaign will result in a more welcoming community for transgender and gender nonconforming individuals, both at UNF and in Jacksonville. Ultimately, the campaign will make the community more inclusive for all.

Program development and planning: assist with research, planning, and implementation of education, visibility, and awareness raising initiatives on gender identity/expression and transgender issues on campus

Program evaluation: assist with evaluation and assessment of programs, policies, and services currently being offered on gender identity and gender expression

Marketing: contribute to producing promotional and educational materials and activities to enhance public awareness about gender identity and expression

Community outreach: represent the LGBTRC at outreach events, provide assistance to peoples seeking information, participate in community meetings as assigned

Administrative support: including mailings, program publicity, data base updates, and other related responsibilities as connected with the project

Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate has acquired a bachelor’s degree and is enrolled at the University of North Florida for at least six credit hours.

Successful candidates should have at least 1-2 years of experience working with LGBT populations

Candidate must possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience and knowledge about LGBTQIA identities

Passion for diversity and inclusion

Knowledgeable about gender identity and expression.

Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills

Enthusiastic about service to students.
