The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) a 24-year old organization, advocates for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights worldwide.  Based in New York City, the Grants Manager reports to the Director of Development & External Relations and is responsible for grant writing and communication and stewardship between IGLHRC and our institutional funders, including government bureaus, foundations, and corporations. The Grants Manager will be expected to develop a deep understanding of IGLHRC’s programs to successfully match donor interests with project funding needs.

International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, cultivate and solicit prospective corporate, foundation and government donors.
  • Initiate, draft, edit and deliver proposals, solicitation letters, acknowledgements and reports in collaboration with program and finance.
  • Manage proposal deadlines, grant reporting and stewardship and coordinate activities with appropriate staff members as needed.
  • Collaborate with development and program staff to seek and develop ways to increase restricted and unrestricted revenue from corporations, foundations and government agencies within a strategic framework.
  • Update database and tracking systems with relevant information, correspondence and documents related to funders and prospects.
  • Track current grant cycles and renewal processes and ensure stewardship to guarantee continued funding.
  • Develop and improve tracking systems as needed.
  • Create, implement and evaluate plans to maintain and expand contributions from corporate, foundation and government sources.
  • Assist in setting fundraising goals and objectives; communicate progress towards goals.

Preparation and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years successful grant writing experience in a nonprofit setting
  • Proven record of successful grant writing with foundation, corporate and/or government funds. Demonstrated success in attracting at least six-figure grants.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with diplomatic ability.
  • Exceptional time management and prioritization skills with ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Detail oriented, accurate, and energetic
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, and ability to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated interest in LGBT issues, Human Rights, and International Affairs.
  • Strong computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, databases, and Internet research. Salesforce.com experience a plus.
  • Understanding of funding landscape and previous relationships with relevant funders a plus.
