Metro Wellness and Community Centers is seeking a culturally competent individual to work with HIV+, gay and bisexual men to provide prevention education and community outreach. This position is responsible for providing HIV prevention and harm-reduction education to people living with and at risk for HIV/AIDS including rapid HIV testing, group interventions, referrals, street outreach, and marketing and recruiting individuals for the program. Services are conducted utilizing a team approach and are delivered to men who have sex with men (MSM), people living with HIV/AIDS and high-risk populations. This position is also responsible for driving the agency’s mobile units for outreach and program activities.
HIV PREVENTION OUTREACH FACILITATOR TO THE GAY COMMUNITY
Essential Job Functions
- Conduct group and individual interventions per month with HIV+ clients; these are client-centered “Prevention with Positives” interventions to help initiate and maintain positive behavior change, and to empower clients with the information necessary to take control of their lives and their health;
- Conduct rapid HIV testing including pre-and post-test counseling
- Make referrals and linkages as needed to HIV primary care, behavioral health services, case management, and other services;
- Conduct a range of outreach activities including street-based outreach in an effort to engage clients into services; this includes conducting outreach in locations where our populations are visible and in need of services, distribution of materials and information about services;
- Provide relevant, accurate, and appropriate risk reduction information via one on one and in a group setting, distributing literature and safer sex supplies, and explaining how supplies may be used to reduce risks;
- Maintain all paperwork and ensure data is appropriately entered in computer systems and databases;
Education and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Florida State driver’s license
- Experience facilitating groups and conducting outreach and recruitment
- Experience working with populations at high risk for HIV and substance abuse
- Knowledge of HIV disease and harm reduction associated with sexual behaviors
- Ability to listen to and communicate clearly and respectfully with community members, clients and agency staff
- High level of self-motivation and strong ability to take initiative
- Flexibility and willingness to work nontraditional hours in the community and weekends at times.
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus
