Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Programs, the HIV Prevention Program Manager has responsibility for development, oversight, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of the HIV/STD and Hepatitis C prevention and screening programs of Fenway Health (“Fenway”) and AIDS Action Committee (“AAC”) that are primarily directed to gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men and transgender persons. This is a supervisory role, supervising directly or through direct reports up to ten (10) full-time staff.

The HIV Prevention Program Manager provides direction, management and overall leadership for the following projects:

  • Publicly funded HIV and Hepatitis C counseling and testing services of Fenway and AAC that are targeted to gay/bi/MSM and transgender communities;
  • Fenway’s publicly funded STD testing services
  • Navigation and high-impact prevention services to assure that HIV-positive clients are linked to, and retained in, medical care and essential support services
  • Navigation and high-impact prevention services for gay/bi/MSM and transgender communities, especially HIV-negative persons at high-risk for infection
  • Associated community education and program promotion activities

Primary responsibilities include: developing work plans and convening regular meetings of staff and/or teams to assure progress against program deliverables; staying abreast of latest development in public health science related to HIV/AIDS and LGBT health; maintaining regular communication with related Fenway and AAC departments to monitor new developments and opportunities for applying scientific findings or replicating promising programs, procedures and practices; building and maintaining relationships with collaborating agencies with a focus on agencies that extend our ability to serve hard-to-reach or disparately impacted sub-populations; establishing and maintaining referral and outreach agreements for events and venues where outreach and promotion activities occur, monitoring and responding to new funding opportunities, developing programs and writing grant proposals as needed to sustain and enhance prevention, education and screening services; managing program budgets and subcontracts; utilizing written and oral communication skills to make a compelling case for the community’s need for HIV prevention services and to prepare and submit progress reports to funders; coordinating grant-related monitoring communications with funders; managing program evaluation and data collection activities of all program staff and serving as liaison with staff of the Data and Evaluation teams of The Fenway Institute; preparing required reports; assisting in the preparation of program promotional materials, press releases, Board reports, newsletter articles, and/or blog entries; and monitoring and pursuing opportunities to disseminate best practices and program successes to local, state and national audiences of professional colleagues through written communication and distance-learning or conference presentations.

  • Master’s and/or clinical degree
  • At least eight (8) years’ experience in public health, health care, or human services
  • At least three (3) years of experience with program development, program management, and staff supervision
  • Experience with health promotion/prevention, communities of color, the LGBT community, HIV/AIDS and substance use issues strongly preferred
  • Experience working with an ethnically, culturally and racially diverse work staff preferred
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals required
