The Human Resources (HR) Assistant provides comprehensive administrative support for the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Team by ensuring accurate, effective and efficient support of human resources functions for the organization. The HR Assistant works closely with Finance/Accounting to achieve HR goals and objectives. The HR Assistant also communicates closely with other departments throughout the organization, providing customer service-focused HR support to achieve Howard Brown Health Center goals and objectives.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides general administrative support such as preparing correspondence, forms and reports, arranging meetings, composing regular correspondence, processing confidential reports and documents, filing electronic and hard copies of documentation in a timely manner.
- Prepares source documentation needed for new hires, changes in pay, status, or benefits.
- Establishes, maintains and audits employee data and files. Completes background checks, employment verifications, and other HR related processes for onboarding and off boarding employees.
- Assists with maintenance of the organizational chart.
- Assists in facilitating new hire orientations as needed
- In collaboration with the HR team, assists with the volunteer and internship program including processing in new applications, data entry and correspondence.
- Manages sensitive and confidential matters related to employee relations, organizational changes, planning and protecting the security of information, data and files with a strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality both in and out of the office.
- In collaboration with the HR Team, responds and assists with inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintains employee records, gathers data and maintains Human Resources Information Systems. Generates statistical reports in such areas as turnover, new hires, birthdays, anniversaries, benefits, and other relevant HR metrics in a timely manner.
- Stays current on industry trends, research and “best practices” in HR.
- Assists with coordination and preparation of HR meetings, events, and programs.
- Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Federal, State and local Employment Law
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Acute attention to detail
- Knowledge of Human Resources Management processes
- Proficient computer skills to produce accurate and well-presented spreadsheets and reports (proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point.
- Good facilitation and presentation skills
- Ability to interpret data presented in forms, graphs, tables, and spreadsheets
- Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to operate under pressure
- Proficiency in basic budget management and payroll calculations
- Able to deliver effective results, meet tight deadlines and targets
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Minimum of a High school diploma and/or GED with two years of Human Resources, General Office, and/or payroll experience or a combination of coursework.
- Must be comfortable working with the LGBT community
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment and multitask
Preferred
- Four year degree, preferably in Human Resources or Business Management or PHR Certification
- Knowledge of ADP is highly regarded
- Two year’s experience in payroll processing
- Non-profit , healthcare and/or social services experience
- Experience working with the LGBT community and diverse populations.
