First, let us introduce the girls. They are Kacey Frierson and Chwanda Nixon. They are a lesbian couple out of Jonesboro, Georgia.
They had a civil union on April 7, 2012, but of course, a civil union is not the same as a marriage.
In April 2013 they and their 7 children embarked on a cross country journey of love, commitment, and equality. They live in a state where they cannot legally get married. So they decided to take the show on the road!!
They had 8 same-sex marriages! All in 5 days! They have been married so far in:
Monday April 8, 2013 New York, NY;
Monday April 8, 2013 Stamford, CT;
Tuesday April 9, 2013 Kittery, ME;
Tuesday April 9, 2013 Manchester, NH;
Wednesday April 10, 2013 Colchester, VT;
Thursday April 11, 2013 Auburn, MA;
Friday April 12, 2013 Baltimore, MD;
Friday April 12, 2013 Washington, DC
Though same sex marriage is now recognized on a federal level, they live in a state where they are still legal strangers.
They are going to continue our journey to California, Delaware, Iowa, Minnesota, Rhode Island and Washington. (The dates for these will be listed on their website once they are set.)
If you can’t come out (no pun intended) to any of the locations where they are, you can also show your support by making a donation.
Further information can be found on their website www.idomarathon.com or on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/idomarathon.
Enjoy the ride!!
