We are looking for an experienced Finance and Operations Director, with expertise leading finance and operations for a non-profit. You will be responsible for managing all the operations of the organization with a main focus on managing the day to day finances. This position will manage an Operations and Development Associate and bookkeeper. This is a great opportunity for a finance executive with operational experience and a proven track record of creative problem-solving and change management to contribute to a high-growth, mission-driven organization.
Come join us! We are hiring an interim Finance and Operations Director to manage finance, human resources and general operations while our full-time Director is on maternity leave. This is a full-time temporary position, reporting to the Executive Director. We’re looking for a commitment of 3-4 months with a start date in June.
Interim Finance and Operations Director
Management
Manage Operations and Development Associate and bookkeeper
Finance/Operations: Acting Chief Financial Officer
Advise the Executive Director on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters. Oversee day-to-day financial operations including:
Financial Reports/Budget
- Monthly reports completed by the 15 th of each month
- Update Budget each month and analyze cash flow for the rest of the year
- Cash flow/budget management/updating budget/etc.
- Regularly Report to the Executive Director on cash flow, financial status, and budgeting.
Payments
- Approve payments.
- Manage bookkeeper and Operations and Development Associate to ensure timely payments to vendors, files are up to date, and proper oversight and controls followed.
Development
- Grant Management: Oversee timely and quality reporting as well as follow up on new proposals, ensuring timely and quality submission, with project management support from Associate.
- Provide general support for Foundation Relations
Human Resources
- Play an advisory role in Employee Relations issues.
- Recruitment: Play an advisory role in the recruitment process, approve all job descriptions, and final offers.
- Manage any contract renewals that arise.
- Manage Performance Reviews Cycle.
Governance
Support Executive Director on Board meeting preparation and other organizational development matters, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Business or Accounting degree
- 10 years experience, with at least 3 years in a senior management role, with oversite over all financial operations
- Experience either as an employee or board member of a nonprofit organization; must be familiar with nonprofit finance and accounting regulations
- Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask
- Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
- Self reliant, good problem solver, results oriented
- Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management, board of directors, and staff
- Ability to operate as an effective tactical as well as strategic thinker
