The Grove’s 2013 Young Leaders Scholarship Program is gaining greater attention this year. UnitedHealthcare, once again the program’s major sponsor, is providing a $15,000 grant to help promote the program through an outreach campaign that includes radio public service announcements targeting college campuses around the country.
This year, the application period has been extended; it will start May 1 and end on September 30, 2013.
The purpose of the Young Leaders Scholarship Program is to recognize, support, and encourage the educational efforts of young people committed to active roles of public service and leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS. To qualify for a scholarship, applicants are asked to write an essay describing their leadership goals and experiences related to HIV/AIDS. Applicants are also encouraged to demonstrate participation in HIV/AIDS-related community service projects in their submissions.
Board member Eric Ciasullo encourages Grove supporters to help spread the word about the scholarship program because it “challenges youth to consider how their career paths may be influenced by a fuller appreciation of the realities of the AIDS crisis. As they engage in course and related community work, leadership skills will develop, enabling them to become more active and visible in the fight against AIDS.”
