L.​A.​ Gay and LesbianCenter Human Resources SupervisorThe L.​A.​ Gay and LesbianCenter is the nation’s largest organization serving gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.​ It operates with an annual budget of $70 million, a staff exceeding 400 and more than 3,000 volunteers.​ Founded in 1971, the Gay and LesbianCenter provides the widest array of social services available anywhere in the LGBT community.​ Some of our programs include : HIV/​AIDS treatment and prevention with a full service clinic and pharmacy, Youth Services including a transitional living facility, Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Services, Legal Services, Anti-Violence programs, Family Services, programs for the Senior LGBT community, HIV & STD testing and prevention, a Cyber Center and Cultural Arts programming including live theater.​

L.​A.​ Gay and LesbianCenter Human Resources Supervisor

Job Definition:

Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources supervise the management of employee training and development, mentoring program, and assist with the management of employee relations and labor laws as well as day-to-day operations.​

Examples of Duties:

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Develop a comprehensive training and development program.​
  2. Assist in the management of employee relations, investigations and preparation of cases regarding employee grievances, appeals and complaints.​
  3. Advises and instructs department management staff and employees regarding the proper methods and proceduresto use on a variety of HR transactions, programs, and issues involving policy, Collective Bargaining Agreement, or labor law.​
  4.   Recommends procedures and policy in the areas of program assignment to assure quality and continuity of service to departments and clients.​
  5. Supervise the administration of workers’ compensation insurance.​
  6. Responsible for the management of employee health benefits.​
  7. Supervise and manage open enrollment of employee benefits.​
  8. Manage Human Resources various data bases.​
  9. Responsible for new employee orientation  and exiting process.
  10. Manage and supervise audits as it pertains to personnel records.​
  11. Responsible for the management of employee payroll systems, procedures, guidelines, processing, etc.​
  12. Responsible for the management of job descriptions for consistency and appropriateness of job duties and placement.
  13. Responsible for the daily functions of the recruitment and including verification of position allocations and job postings.​
  14. Ensures that all HR transactions are completed in accordance with proper guidelines, policy, and standards.
  15. Supervise, train and evaluate subordinate staff as assigned.​

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. 6-8 years of direct management experience of a staff of 50 or greater.​
  2. 4-6 years of Human Resources experience in a company with a staff of 200 or greater.​
  3. Knowledge of customer service, exceptional organizational and managerial coaching skills.
  4. Considerable knowledge of training and development employees.
  5. A strong ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.​
  6. A strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, employees, employee representatives and the public.​
  7. Strong comprehension of payroll laws, wage & hours laws and Human Resources practices.​
  8. Demonstrated work experience with labor unions.​
  9. Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation laws.
  10. Considerable knowledge of database systems, proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel.
  11. A Bachelor’s Degree a plus
