Seattle Counseling Service – Seattle, WA
This is a project-based position focused on increasing knowledge by SCS about the needs of Refugee/Immigrant LGBTQ community members. Over the course of a nine-twelve month period, the person in the position is tasked with a set of discreet objectives to improve i access to care for Refugee/Immigrant members of the LGBTQ community who are not currently accessing SCS services.
Directly reports to: Deputy Director
LGBTQ REFUGEE IMMIGRANT OUTREACH SPECIALIST
- Must have familiarity and experience working within a refugee/immigrant community context
- Must have familiarity with the LGBTQ community in Seattle/King County and be aware of LGBTQ mental health and addiction issues
- Must possess experience providing outreach, engagement with under-served communities
- Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Must have good writing and public speaking skills
- Must be willing to work both autonomously and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate well cross culturally
Responsibilities:
- Learn about the current system of providers working with Refugees/Immigrants in Seattle/King County
- Identify 10 to 15 organizations and individuals with whom SCS should develop relationship in the refugee/immigrant communities
- Conduct interviews with key community leaders/organizations to learn about the current needs of LGBT community members in the Refugee/Immigrant communities
- Identify unmet needs related to behavioral health care
- Investigate language accessibility needs for LGBTQ Refugee/Immigrant clients
- Summarize findings to share with SCS leadership
- Develop referral relationships between SCS and other providers in Refugee/Immigrant communities and the LGBTQ community
- Actively contribute to the development of a behavioral health program specifically focused on the needs of LGBTQ Refugee/Immigrants
- Develop materials to describe SCS services
- Investigate strategies for recruiting more diverse student populations to enter into the SCS internship program and share recommendations with SCS leadership for program modifications if necessary
Compensation:
Half Time, Salary DOE
