A new storyline which sees Johnny Carter (played by Sam Strike) and Danny Pennant (played by Gary Lucy) kiss in Walford Sqaure attracted numerous homophobic tweets on New Years Eve.
Some users even called for the characters to be killed, whilst others said they would stop watching the soap if the gay storyline continued.
Phil Brown @celebgossPB a Celebrity commentator said of the Tweets:
'So much homophobia over a gay kiss in #Eastenders. Stop living in a hole and get a life. You're what's wrong with society.'
However the late 9.00PM broadcast time of Eastenders, which is usually at 7:30 or 8:00PM was also questioned by Twitter users.
