When the Academy of Motion Pictures announced the Oscar Nominations earlier today it was clear that the Brits had done very well again.

Both THE THEORY OF EVERYTHIING and THE IMITATION GAME were nominated for Best Picture, as were their leading men, EDDIE REDMAYNE and BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH who garnered BEST ACTOR nominations too. The Imitation Game is based on the true story of the brilliant cryptologist ALAN TURING who managed to beak the infamous Enigma Code thus considerably shortening WW2.

Turing sadly took his own life after the War when he was publicly outed as a gay man.

THE IMITATION GAME also picked up another 6 nominations for its international crew: American Writer Graham Moore, American Editor William Goldenberg, French Composer Alexander Desplait, English Production and Set Designers Maria Djurkovic & Tatiana Macdonald and its Norwegian Director Morten Tyldum.

ROSAMUND PIKE made the list of BEST ACTRESS nominations for her riveting performance in ‘GONE GIRL”, and she is up against fellow Brit FELICITY JONES for her role as Jane Hawkins in THE IMITATION GAME. Plus quintessential English actress KEIRA KNIGHTLY collecting her second Oscar Nomination (Pride & Prejudice in 2006) was recognized for BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESSS for her part in The Imitation Game.

Sadly Timothy Spall’s compelling performance in Mike Leigh’s MR TURNER failed to make the final five, but the movie itself was nominated for Costume Design, Cinematography, Original Score, Production and Set Design and will more than likely win at least two Oscars in these categories.
