Development and Program Associate Position
The Western Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh) office is made up of two full-time staff attorneys and works with a variety of operational and programmatic consultants. The Development and Program Associate will support all functions of the development office (foundation, corporate, and individual giving and special events) and provide valuable support in a variety of statewide program areas.
The Development and Program Associate will work closely with the Associate Director of Development and development consultants as well as WLP staff.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Demonstrated commitment to gender equality
- Minimum 1-2 years of relevant work experience
The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, experience working with development-related and customer relationship databases, social media prowess, research skills, and proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs. The candidate must be a strong and clear communicator and comfortable interacting with existing and prospective supporters, donors, board members, and coalition members. Prior experience in grant writing and fundraising for nonprofits strongly preferred. Candidate must have a passion for women’s rights issues, the flexibility and aptitude for handling unanticipated tasks or challenges, and, importantly, a sense of humor. Tasks include but will not be limited to:
Individual Giving
- Monitor database for donor giving histories and trends
- Assist with all aspects of year end appeal initiatives and work place campaigns
- Coordinate logistics and carry out tasks associated with donor cultivation events
- Conduct in-depth prospect research, including profiles and community involvement
- Draft and oversee all individual giving acknowledgements
- Help to develop and oversee events throughout the year
Rights to Realities (Annual Fundraiser)
Coordinate with development consultant to:
- Maintain event timeline and deliverables
- Coordinate and convene host committee meetings
- Manage volunteers, vendors, and day-of event program
- Solicit corporate sponsorships and in-kind donations for silent/live auction items
- Track all expenses and revenues
- Ensure all donations are tracked with the necessary documentation and carry out all post-event acknowledgements
- Coordinate and oversee event logistics: silent/live auction, food and beverage, music, and guest services
- Track attendee list
- Ensure fulfillment of all sponsor and donor benefits
- Generate financial summaries
Recordkeeping and Database Maintenance
Maintain Salsa database, including:
- Supporter information updates
- Donation recording
- Relationship tracking
Board Relations
- Assist development staff and development consultant in scheduling meetings and preparing all necessary meeting materials
- Ensure that all board contributions are accurately tracked
- Gather data and provide periodic board engagement reports
- Serve on Development Committee
Foundation Grant Management
- Conduct ongoing research for grant and sponsorship opportunities
- Maintain grant deadlines calendar
- Assist with drafting grant applications and reports
General Program Support
- Assist on assignments in support of the programs within WLP’s core focus areas: reproductive health, sex discrimination, Title IX, violence against women, economic justice and LGBTQ rights
- Helping to maintain and develop content for WLP’s various social media channels, including the Western Pennsylvania office’s social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, blog)
- Provide support for organizational initiatives and serve as lead contact and coordinator for several coalition partners
- Organize and convene Community Advocates, a network of supporters and advisors
- Recruit, interview, hire, and manage undergraduate interns and work-study students.
Office Management
- Manage intake calls and messages
- Invoice processing
- Expense tracking
- Correspondence and filing
- Communicating with vendors to maintain the office space and equipment
- Supply management
- Provide various kinds of administrative support to the legal staff
