At Fenway Health, we define “primary health care” as encompassing ongoing and preventive medical services, mental health counseling, addiction services, holistic and complementary therapies and community health education and outreach.
Fenway Health is looking for outstanding primary care physicians with a specific interest in women’s health and transgender health.
The Physician will provide outpatient care five days a week. Overnight call occurs about one week out of every thirteen and also entails coverage of the practice’s hospitalized patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center during the specified call weekend.
The Physician will provide direct medical services to the full range of Fenway Health patients, including conducting exams, ordering tests, prescribing medication, formulating treatment plans and providing preventive health care advice and psychosocial screening and assessment. There may be the opportunity to supervise mid-level practitioners, medical residents and/or medical students and to contribute to community-based research initiatives. The physician will be expected to maintain full medical licensure in MA, controlled substance licensure in MA, and a federal DEA license.
Physician Women’s and Transgender Health
Requirements:
- M.D. or D.O. degree
- Current Massachusetts medical license, Massachusetts controlled substances registration, and federal DEA license
- Board certification in internal medicine, infectious disease or family practice
- Minimum 3 years experience in women’s health
- An interest in LGBT health and, more specifically, women’s health and transgender health
- Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals
- Experience working in an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment preferred

The Trans Health Program at Fenway helps to ensure access to high-quality, informed care for trans women, trans men, genderqueer, gender nonconforming, non-binary individuals, affirmed men and women, people with trans histories, and anyone with health needs unique to their diverse gender expressions and identities.

Goals of the Trans Health Program:
- Provide gender-affirming, comprehensive health care for all trans and gender nonconforming patients
- Transform the way trans people receive care and lead the way in eliminating barriers to achieving maximum health and wellbeing
- Collaborate with other clinics and organizations serving trans and gender nonconforming communities
- Provide high quality trainings and education to mental health and medical professionals
- Conduct local, national, and global research on trans issues and concerns through The Fenway Institute
Trans Health Program Patient Advocate:
Fenway’s Trans Health Program Patient Advocate is available for walk-in 20-minute appointments on Wednesdays from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on the 2nd Floor of the Ansin Building, 1340 Boylston Street. The Patient Advocate is able to help people find health information, learn about resources, and figure out next steps for getting into care.
