Tel Aviv’s 17th Pride Parade will takes place on the 12th June 2015, under the slogan “Tel Aviv Loves all Genders.” This year the parade will be in support of transgender rights and recognition of their contribution to the LGBT community and the city of Tel Aviv-Jaffa. This year 120,000 people are expected to participate including 25,000 gay tourists who will arrive from around the world for the Pride Festival celebrations.

Today thousands of transgender people live in Israel and face the same social issues and legal struggles as the rest of the LGBT community together with the victories and moments in the spotlight. The events of Pride 2015 will highlight the contribution transgenders have made to the gay community and the city of Tel Aviv-Jaffa and call for recognition of their needs and full equal rights for all genders everywhere.

In the past year the transgender community has attained significant achievements in the legal arena, parliament, the public eye and in within the LGBT community, for example: agreements over the rights of transgender soldiers in the army, the establishment of two new organizations within the transgender community for their benefit.

Together with this the road which lies before the transgender community is paved with the most vulnerable issues facing the LGBT community and there is still a long way to go: Transgenders suffer from discrimination in the work market, housing and education, a high rate of physical and verbal abuse and from hurtful treatment and a lack of respect in everyday life.

By putting the transgender community at the forefront of Pride 2015 we hope to promote the visibility of this community, gather support for their achievements and give a helping hand to their future efforts in their fight for recognition and equal rights. Together with this the Pride parade and events continue to reflect the full spectrum of the LGBT community, and will include an activities area for children and families and other still-to-be announced happenings.

Tel Aviv-Jaffa is proud to continue supporting the LGBT community in general and the transgender community in particular. The Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality invests resources, thought and creativity in the gay community by supporting the LGBT community center which acts as the base for the “Transition” organization and by encouraging gay tourism. In addition the Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality helps finance temporary housing for transgenders and a project for encouraging the integration of transgender youths and young adults into the work market.
